Cars in German City Discovered Smeared with Swastikas in Human Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Police reported they were notified by a man who noticed a car in Hanau smeared with reddish liquid

Around 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Cars, walls and postboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.

Police state they were notified late on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.

The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Police then found numerous other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.

Officials say initial examinations suggest the substance was likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no lead as to its source; investigators are not yet informed of any harm in connection with the incident," they stated.

City officials announced they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the community for details.

A high-ranking representative stated the attack made him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.

"This incident hits the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he wrote on a platform, referring to the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting people of migrant background in February 2020.
